Rule and examples

Hizo is stressed HI-zo: stress on the second-to-last syllable and it ends in a vowel, so no accent.

Rápido is split RÁ-pi-do: stress on the third-to-last syllable, so it always has an accent.

Lápiz is stressed LÁ-piz: stress on the second-to-last syllable and it ends in z, so it has an accent.

Árbol is stressed ÁR-bol: second-to-last syllable and it ends in l (not a vowel, n or s), so it has an accent.

Después is stressed on the last syllable and ends in s, so it has an accent.

Fácil is stressed FÁ-cil and ends in l, so it has an accent.
