Sentences

Me, te, nos · mim, comigo · para eu

Before the verb: me, te, nos (ele me ajuda). After a preposition: mim, você (para mim, comigo). Para eu fazer: the subject is eu.

Rule and examples

Me, te, nos before the verb

The receiver of the action is “me” (eu), “te” (você) or “nos” (nós), and it goes before the verb in Brazilian speech: O gato me olha. Eu te vejo. A professora nos ajuda. With “você”, speech uses “te” (Eu te amo); very formal texts also use “o/a/lhe”. Never “O gato eu olha” or “O gato mim olha”.

Example O gato me olha. · Eu te vejo. · A professora nos ajuda.

After a preposition: mim, você, ele

After a preposition, “eu” becomes “mim”: para mim, de mim, em mim, sem mim, sobre mim. With “com”, they join: comigo (com + mim). For the other persons: para você, com você, para ele, com ela. Never “para eu” (when no verb follows) or “com mim”.

Example para mim · de mim · comigo · com você · para ele

Para eu fazer · entre mim e você

If an infinitive verb follows the preposition, the person doing the action is the subject and stays “eu”: Traga papel para eu desenhar. Antes de eu chegar. Sem eu saber. But with no verb after it: Isto é para mim. And: entre mim e você (the standard norm does not allow “entre eu e você”, although it is heard a lot in speech).

Example para eu desenhar · sem eu saber · entre mim e você
