Rule and examples

Andare, fare, dare, stare

Andare: vado · vai · va · andiamo · andate · vanno. Fare: faccio · fai · fa · facciamo · fate · fanno. Dare: do · dai · dà · diamo · date · danno. Stare: sto · stai · sta · stiamo · state · stanno. They are irregular mostly in io, lui/lei and loro.

Example vado · faccio · do · sto · vanno

Venire, dire, uscire

Venire: vengo · vieni · viene · veniamo · venite · vengono. Dire: dico · dici · dice · diciamo · dite · dicono. Uscire: esco · esci · esce · usciamo · uscite · escono. Also bere: bevo · bevi · beve · beviamo · bevete · bevono.

Example vengo · dico · esco · bevo · vengono · escono

Watch the accent: dà, but fa, va, sta

Only “dà” (the verb dare) has the accent, to tell it from the preposition “da”: Gus dà il pacco a Tony; Gus viene da Roma. Fa, va and sta never have an accent: we do not write “fà”, “vá” or “stà”.

Example Gus dà il pacco. · Gus viene da Roma. · Luca fa un disegno.
